Mamhead (Haldon Forest)

We’re in a woodland clearing at Mamhead, on Forestry England land a few minutes from our old Haldon Forest site and a short drive from Exeter and Newton Abbot.

The sauna was built for us by artisans in the Forest of Dean. It’s wood-fired and we aim for about 90 degrees. The window looks out into the trees. Outside there are cold plunges, a fire pit and seating for warming up between rounds. Sessions are 55 minutes for up to eight people, and the whole sauna can be hired.

The site is off-grid and has no mains water, so bring your own drinking water. We have electrolytes to add to it and a free cup of From Trees tea for every visitor. There is a portable toilet on site for emergencies. Please use the facilities before you arrive if you can.

Park in the Forestry England car park (pay and display, free for FE members). Postcodes don’t work well here, so use what3words: logbook.stones.quiet.

Opening days: Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, Friday to Sunday all day. Times on the booking page.

Prices: start from £15 a session with private hire from £129. Membership from £14.99 a month.
